When and How Moths Form On Carpets

The moth damage of the carpets occurs when the carpets are left dirty (not washed for many years) and in undisturbed places for a long time, under a piece of furniture, a bed, a sofa or in places that are difficult to access such as cellars, garages, attics. If you decide to place wooden furniture on your carpet, be careful and check it at least once a month.

Remember that both air and light are enemies of moths. Consequently, carpets that are closed or placed away from light in dark places or in dim light and in poorly ventilated places are the preferred targets for moths.

What Damage Can Moths Cause To Carpets

Damage to fabrics and carpets is caused by moth larvae. Once the eggs have hatched, the larvae begin to eat the tissue and fibers in which they live in order to feed themselves. This period can last approximately two months, after which the larva creates a cocoon in which it turns into an adult (so-called butterfly).

It is easy to understand that a carpet left unattended and infested with larvae can be eaten and ruined in a short time. The moths eaten and eaten by moths have circumscribed holes, different from the holes caused by normal wear.

What to Do If You Find That You Have a Mothed or Moth-Infested Carpet?

Avoid using powdered insecticide products that are ineffective at this stage of the infestation, especially because they are unable to reach the eggs that are now hidden in the internal fibers of the carpet and are attacked with a substance similar to glue and can be quite difficult to remove.

Furthermore, liquid insecticides if used incorrectly can alter the colors of your carpet, ruining its design irreparably.
